Accra, Oct 31, GNA – Mr Daniel Adjei Adjetey, Chairman of the United Traders Association, has appealed to President John Agyekum Kufuor, to use his good offices to ensure the re-settlement of displaced traders at the Tema Station in Accra.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Adjetey said their recent eviction from the Station by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) would bring untold hardships to most of the traders who had taken loans from financial institutions to support their businesses.
He urged the government to as a matter of urgency, find an alternative place to re-settle the affected traders. Some of the traders, mostly women, who spoke to the GNA, expressed regret that the AMA exercise had not only made it difficult for them to make ends meet, but had also made it very difficult to pay their wards’ school fees.
They further lamented that they would find it extremely difficult to re-pay the loans they had contracted from the banks if their trading activities were curtailed. The AMA, last week, undertook the exercise to eject the traders from the Tema Station.
