Akuapem Traditional Area determine to have paramountcies

Larteh, Oct. 9, GNA – The Chief of Larteh, Nana Asiedu Okoo Ababio, has said that the resolve of the people of Akuapem to have an independent and autonomous paramountcies in the name of Akuapem Guan, Anafo and Okere was irreversible and non negotiable. “We guans are at peace with ourselves and therefore we are prepared to ensure that there is absolute peace in Akuapem which is a prerequisite for orderly development,” he said. Speaking at the Odwira durbar of the chiefs and people of Larteh, the chief said as a result of their claim for separate paramountcies, the Akuapem Traditional Council and Nana Addo Dankwa, the Paramount chief of Akwapim Traditional Area, had sought injunction at the Koforidua high court against the three heads of the paramountcies. They are the Akuapem Anafohene, Nana Djan Kwasi II, Akuapem Okerehene Nana Otutu Kono III and Osabarima Asiedu Okoo Ababio III, Akuapem Guanhene, restraining them from claiming to be Amanhene of their respective areas.

He said the people of Akuapem and for that matter, the Guans, Okere and Anafo knew their history and where they came from and would not allow any obstacle on their way to create those paramountcies. Nana Asiedu Ababio said he would appreciate if the matter was settled amicably but was equally prepared to contest for the rightful positions of Guans, Okere and people of Akuapem Anafo in the Akuapim area.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Affram Asiedu appealed to the chiefs and people of Akuapem to exercise restraint in resolving the matter and allow the court to peacefully settle the matter.
