President congratulates Prof. Mensah-Bonsu

Accra, Oct. 9, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday congratulated Professor Henrietta Mensah-Bonsu on her appointment as the

UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative in Liberia. This, he said, was an acknowledgement of the resourcefulness of the nation.

Ghana is known for quality human resources and this appointment should be seen as an honour to the country, he said, when Professor Mensah-Bonsu, called to formally inform him of her new position. She has responsibility for helping the Liberian Government to reform and to rebuild its legal institutions – judicial and police, rendered dysfunctional by more than a decade of bloody and destructive civil war.

By making these institutions functional once again, the Liberian Government would be enabled to re-establish its authority throughout the entire country, Professor Mensah-Bonsu said.
