Fire Service orders gas and petrol stations to have extinguishers

Agona Swedru, Oct 5, GNA – An exercise conducted by the Agona District Command of the Ghana National Fire Service has revealed that most hotels, petrol and gas stations in the district are without fire certificates and fire extinguishers. Mr Alfred A. Acheampong, District Fire Commander, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Thursday that owners of the facilities had been given a one-week ultimatum to acquire the items. He said the exercise, which was conducted by a combined team of officers from Cape Coast and Agona Swedru, visited seven hotels, gas and petrol filling stations.

Mr Acheapong said after the deadline, owners who did not are comply with the directives would have their stations closed. He said the exercise would be extended to shop owners in the district.

Some market women at Mandela Market in Agona Swedru have expressed concern about the sitting of a gas station close to market. They have therefore appealed to the district assembly and the Regional Coordinating Council to relocate the station.
