Mason jailed five years for attempted murder

Kumawu (Ash), Oct. 5, GNA – A 40 year-old mason who attempted to poison his wife at Kumawu in the Sekyere East District has been jailed five years by a circuit court at Kumawu.

Kofi Basoa, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie. Police Chief Inspector, Anthony Godfred Sakyi, told the court that on September 10 this year, at about 18.30 hours, the accused took advantage of the absence of his wife and intentionally poured a poisonous substance into a light soup she had prepared for fufu to kill whoever would taste it.

The prosecution said luck ran out for Basoa as one Grace Nyamekye who alerted the accused person’s wife Yaa Afi, on her return, saw him. She subsequently reported the matter to the police at Kumawu and Basoa was arrested. 05 Oct. 07
