Addo Kufuor donates to flood victims

WA, Oct. 4, GNA- Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, former Minister of Defence on Thursday donated GH=A21,000 (10 million cedis) to the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council as his contribution towards rehabilitating victims of the recent flood disaster in the region.

Presenting the amount to Mrs. Winifred Dy-Yakah, Deputy Regional Minister at her office, Dr Addo Kufuor, who is an aspiring Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said he was moved by the severe human suffering, caused by the floods, to donate the money as his “widow’s mite”.

He said he was offering a total of three thousand Ghana cedis (30 million cedis) to the flood victims in the three Northern regions with each receiving GH=A21,000.

“I hope the amount though small, would go a long way to help some of them to acquire their basic needs”.

Mrs. Dy-Yakah thanked the former Minster and Presidential Aspirant for his kind gesture and expressed the hope that more of such donations would be forthcoming to enable the victims recover from their trauma following the destruction of their houses and farms. The Presidential Aspirant also met with constituency executives to solicit their support and reiterated that his bother, who is the current Head of State, should not be an issue on who should lead the NPP in next year’s elections.

He said the delegates would judge him by his performance and past record and therefore the concerns raised by some people that he was trying to create a dynasty was irrelevant.
