Deductions from workers’ salaries to be suspended

Accra, Oct. 3, GNA- The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), has decided to suspend certain deductions from salaries of workers, which have triggered complaints, with immediate effect.

In a statement issued in Accra, CAGD said the deductions would be suspended while investigations were conducted to determine the cause of the problem.

It said the deductions were for overpayment of loan recovery, tax on arrears and tax in arrears.

The statement said, “Meanwhile, workers are assured that any wrongful deductions would be refunded without delay.” CAGD said the problem occurred as a result of efforts to “correct certain discrepancies in the salaries of some government employees.” Workers on government payroll have for several weeks complained about the deductions.
