Takoradi Polytechnic holds matriculation

Takoradi, Oct. 01, GNA – A total of 2,271 students including 659 women were on Monday admitted to pursue various Higher National Diploma courses for the 2007/2008 academic year at Takoradi Polytechnic. Dr Samuel Apori, Principal of Takoradi Polytechnic, administering the matriculation oath said review of constitutions, laws, statues, rules, regulations and policies, should be done with laid down procedures or the due process of law.

He explained that this would ensure good governance, democracy, peace and tranquillity to create the necessary serene atmosphere for academic work.

Dr Apori urged the students to study all the rules, regulations and policies of the Polytechnic.

These are the Polytechnic Law, Takoradi Polytechnic Statutes and Council Policies and Directives, National Board for Technician Examination Regulations and Takoradi Polytechnic Students’ Handbook. Dr Apori said management would continue to operate an open door policy, be a “listening administration”, welcome constructive criticisms and be fair to all and sundry irrespective of the student’s socio-economic status, gender, religion and ethnic background. He noted that what was absent in the polytechnic community was a functioning Students Representative Council because an aggrieved student took management to court when election was being conducted. Dr Apori said as law-abiding entity, management of the Polytechnic decided not to count the votes cast after the election but sent the ballot boxes to the police for safe keeping until the case was disposed off.

He said management had received a court notice that management and students could now collect the election boxes from the police for counting to declare the results and inaugurate a Students Representative Council for 2007/2008 academic year.
