Ghana to fly home stranded maids from Lebanon

ACCRA, June 21 (Reuters) – Ghana is to fly home 180 of its nationals from Lebanon, most of them young female domestic workers stranded without papers or means of support after running away from their employers. A government statement, issued after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, said that the 180 had fled after being subjected to various forms of abuse. The defence ministry would help with the operation, it added.

Lebanon’s embassy in Ghana said that more than 3,000 Ghanaians worked in Lebanon.
