Essilfie elected NDC candidate for Shama

Shama (W/R), Sept. 24, GNA – Mr. Gabriel Kojo Essilfie, a 57-year-old Charted Accountant based in the United States, was on Saturday elected unopposed as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Shama in the upcoming elections.

The election, which was conducted by the National Electoral Commission, climaxed a delegate’s congress that was attended by some national and regional officers of the party and a large number of NDC faithful. Addressing the delegates Baba Jamal, Deputy General Secretary of the party, said the 2008 election was crucial and no stone should be left unturned to ensure resounding victory for the NDC.

He said even though the NDC had the upper hand over all the other parties, there was the need to ensure unity and hard work to make victory a forgone conclusion.

“2008 elections is going to be a make or break period for the NDC and we should employ all approved means to ensure victory”, Baba Jamal said. He advised the rank and file, particularly party activists, to be vigilant to check any malpractices during the elections.

He commended Mr. Essilfie for leaving his “comfort and enjoyment” in the US to come home to lead his people and that he took the decision only for the love of his people.

Mrs Esther Lilly Nkansah, a former Western Regional Minister, stressed the need for polling agents to be extra vigilant at polling stations and not to allow themselves to be bought by unscrupulous people.

Mr. Yaw Gyan, Deputy NDC National Organiser, said the party was growing stronger and stronger and advised members and sympathisers to remain loyal and faithful at all times.

Mr. Essilfie thanked the delegates for electing him and promised to work hard to ensure victory for the NDC.
