Dormaa-Ahenkro(BA), Sept. 24, GNA – Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, a flag bearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pledged to unite the party when elected during the December congress. Addressing members of the party from Dormaa East and West constituencies at Dormaa Ahenkro as part of a tour of Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Akufo-Addo pledged to bridge the gap between government and the party for Election 2008.
The tour was to officially introduce himself and canvass for votes during the congress.
He noted that the current level of co-operation between government and the party did not augur well for unity, stability and consensus building.
Nana Akufo-Addo, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and NEPAD, debunked speculations that, “he was arrogant and would engage in the vilification and harassment of members in opposition as a President”.
He noted that the high number of aspirants for the December congress was an indication of maturity in democracy within the NPP and pledged to support any aspirant who would be elected the flag bearer to enable the NPP win the 2008 election.
Nana Akufo-Addo said “NPP needs a leader of my calibre who is well-versed in local and international issues to succeed President John Agyekum Kufuor and to catapult Ghana into another level among the comity of nations”.
He commended efforts of the party’s leadership in the two constituencies and urged other constituencies in the region to emulate them to enable the party to win the 14 parliamentary seats being occupied by the NDC.
Nana Akufo-Addo assured the two constituencies of his cooperation and steadfast stewardship when elected to lead the party to its third successive victory.
Mr Mumuni Musah, Dormaa West NPP Constituency Chairman expressed appreciation to Nana Akufo-Addo for his confidence and contribution towards the growth of the party and assured him and the other aspirants of the constituency’s unflinching support.
Mr Hubert Kusi, Dormaa East NPP Constituency Chairman, noted that voter apathy was creeping into members of the party due to the gap between government and the party.
He therefore, asked the next President of the party to make the issue his priority problem to solve.
