Western region launches NYE programme

Takoradi, Sept. 15, GNA – Nana Akomea, Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment, has said training of Community Protection Unit (CPU) was aimed at improving security and the protection of lives and property nationwide.

So far 2,000 people have been trained nationwide under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).

These was contained in an address read on his behalf by Mr. Anthony E. Amoah, Western Regional Minister at Takoradi at the regional launch of the National Youth Employment Programme on Friday. Nana Akomea appealed to the public to support members of the CPU in the discharge of their duties.

He said the recruits must operate within their boundaries and should not usurp the role of the Police. Mr. Amoah thanked the NYEP for including the Western Region in the CPU programme.

He urged the recruits to work hard and promote high security standards in the region. Mr. Kwesi Biney, District Chief Executive for Ahanta West, said many people wanted change but were unprepared to change to meet new demands.

He said many Ghanaians require change but were unwilling to sacrifice part of their freedoms to achieve such changes. “Change required determination, sacrifice and personal devotion to the chosen agenda,” he said.
