Dan Botwe donates to flood Victims in Upper East

Bolgatanga, Sept. 14, GNA- Mr. Dan Botwe, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, on Thursday presented 1,000 Ghana cedis to the Upper East Regional Minister to support flood victims in the region, at Bolgatanga.

Mr. Botwe who was on a private tour of the Northern part of the country as part of his second round campaign tour, said he was touched by the situation of flood victims in the region and was making his widows might to mitigate their plight.

He said considering the magnitude of the recent disaster, the country needed to fully equip disaster related agencies to ensure that future occurrences were well managed or prevented. Mr. Botwe, who was also former Minister of Information, under the NPP government and former General Secretary of the party, called on individuals, organizations and institutions to come to the aid of the disaster victims.

He said the swift response of government to the disaster in the Upper West. Upper East, and Northern regions (three northern regions) was a clear manifestation that the NPP was a listening government and closer to the citizenry.

Receiving the money, the Regional Minister Mr. Alhassan Samari, commended Mr. Botwe for the assistance and said the gesture would assist in bringing relief to the victims most of whom were temporary staying at schools and camps.

Mr. Samari said agriculture, health, road networks and educational infrastructure were damaged by the disaster.

He said about 4,544 houses were affected with a total number of 16,392 displaced with eight people confirmed dead. Mr. Samari said the floods submerged most of the drinking sources of water. 14 Sept 0
