Three farmers arrested for poaching in game reserve

Nkwanta (V/R), Sept. 10, GNA- A Magistrates’ Court at Nkwanta has fined three persons GH=A2200 (two million cedis) each for poaching in the Kyabobo Wildlife Game Reserve in the Nkwanta District. Awiagah Charles , 28, Alornu Kwabena,25, and Sewura Kwadzo ,30 pleaded guilty to three counts of hunting in a game reserve without permission, possessing guns in a wildlife protected area for the purposes of hunting and hunting in group.

The accused persons would serve 12 months imprisonment on each count to run consecutively in default.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Inspector Hayford Kwame Asempah, told the court presided over by Mr Stanislaus Amanoipo, that at about 1500 hours on July 24 this year, guards from the reserve who were on patrol duty came across the three accused persons gaming in the reserve. He said the accused on seeing the guards took to their heels leaving behind three guns as well as carcasses of five dickers, one porcupine and one monkey.

Inspector Asempah said the guards managed to arrest them and handed the culprits and the exhibits to the Police .
