Farmer appeals for protection

Suhum, Sept. 8, GNA- The 44-year-old farmer who shot and killed one of four suspected armed robbers, last Friday appealed to the Inspector General of police (IGP) to give him protection as he was being threatened by a group of people suspected to be colleagues of the deceased.

The farmer shot and killed one of four armed robbers who were allegedly stealing electricity cable wires at Akim Asafo near Kibi in the Eastern Region,

Speaking to the Ghana News agency at Akim Asafo, Mr Issac Feku said on August 6th, this year whilst in bed at about 02.30 hours, he heard an unusual noise on the nearby street and woke up only to see four men he suspected to be armed robbers. He said one of the armed men also saw him and rushed on him with his AK 47 raffle but before he could shoot at him, he fired first and then raised an alarm leading to the arrest of one of the suspected armed robbers.

Mr Feku said he made a report to the Akim Asafo police and the body was later conveyed to the Suhum government hospital mortuary while the arrested armed robber was sent to Koforidua police cells. He said since then a group of people wearing masks visited his house in the night threatening him. He said he made several reports to the Akim Asafo and the Suhum police but nothing had been done about it.
