Obuasi Assembly to benefit from five school projects

Obuasi (Ash.), Sept. 7, GNA – The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) is to benefit from five new school projects under the government’s Schools Under Trees Programme. The projects are six-unit classroom blocks each for the Obuasi Saint Thomas Catholic and Apitikooko/Ntonsua Primary and three-unit classroom blocks each for Mamiriwa, Mampamhwe and Kwabenakwa-Domiabra junior secondary schools (JSS).

Mr Joe Boampong, Municipal Chief Executive, who announced this at a general meeting of the Assembly at Obuasi, said the project formed part of the government’s efforts to improve school infrastructure and make teaching and learning easier and more attractive. He said the tendering for the projects was in progress and that it was expected the successful contractors would complete the projects before the beginning of the next academic year. On the Schools Feeding Programme, the Municipal Chief Executive said it was progressing satisfactorily.

Mr Boampong said despite the increases in enrolment in the two beneficiary schools, release of funds had not taken care of the increases, however, “the Assembly had to come to the aid of the programme with additional funds”.

He added that the Assembly was pursuing vigorously the issue of taking more schools on board the programme. “I am in constant touch with the secretariat and indications are that the number of schools would increase at the beginning of next academic year”, Mr Boampong stressed.
