Akyempemhene of Enchi in court

Tarkwa (W/R) Sept. 7, GNA – A Tarkwa circuit court on Wednesday granted Nana Abeaw, 54, Akyempemhene of Enchi, and two others, a GH=A210,000 (100 million cedis) bail each when they appeared in court for threat of death, trespassing and stealing. They pleaded not guilty.

The others were John Obeng alias Bulu, 32, carpenter and Isaac Brentu alias Ayoma, 32.

The court had on August 23 issued a bench warrant for their arrest but they surfaced with their lawyer in the court on Wednesday. Prosecuting Police Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided by Mr John Ajet Nasam that on June 30 2007, the Chief and Obeng allegedly led a group numbering about 70 including Brentu to the camp of Achimfo Farms and threatened the workers.

The workers, sensing danger fled the Camp but Zakari and Mohammed Kusasi refused to leave. This infuriated Nana Abeaw and he allegedly threatened that if they failed to leave the Camp he would kill them and that he Nana Abeaw had taken over the cocoa plantation. Brentu, who accompanied Nana Abeaw to the camp, stole a double barrel shot gun belonging to the company. The Prosecutor said the Mr Seth Ohene, project officer of the Achimfo Cocoa Plantation, therefore, reported the incident to the Police, when the workers reported the case to him.

Inspector Paddy said on July 5, Mr Ohene reported the behaviour of Nana Abeaw to the Nana Kweku Pattah III, the Tufuhene of the Aowin Traditional Area, but there again, Nana Abbeaw and his gang, stormed the palace clad in red head and arm bands and sang war songs amidst threats of death. Sensing danger, Mr Ohene fled from the palace and went and lodged a complaint with police and the three were arrested. The court on August 23 2007 issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Nana Abeaw and the two others. 7 Sept. 07
