Good Samaritan slashed by a fleeing thief

Akatsi (V/R), Sept.7 GNA – An alleged fleeing thief at Akatsi on Wednesday inflicted deep cuts with a sharp object on the arms of a Good Samaritan, who attempted to arrest him.

Mr Peter Nuzame, 34, said to have bled profusely narrowly escaped another thrust by the thief at his stomach with the same object. Eye witnesses told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that while an Accra-Aflao passenger vehicle was unloading goods at the old Akatsi market, the thief wrest a bag from a passenger on the bus and took to his heels.

The witnesses said while bystanders were pursuing the thief, Mr Nuzame showed up in his path and seized him but during a brief struggle the thief cut his left arm and escaped.

The witnesses said the thief was nearly run over by a vehicle as he dashed across the major street during the futile chase. Items said to be in the bag include money and a cellular phone. Mr Emmanuel Mifetu, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of Akatsi District, said no such report had been made at the police station yet.
