Sissala community install chief

Accra, Sept. 1, GNA – The Madina/Abokobi MP, Alhaji Amadu Sorogo on Sunday appealed to the Sisala Community living in Madina to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to access quality health care delivery.

Alhaji Sorogo was speaking during the installation of Amiru Sulwie, the Sisala Chief in Madina. Chief Amiru Sulwie, 67, a charcoal seller had lived in Madina for over 30 years.

He said NHIS was started by the NDC on a pilot basis in 43 districts in the country and expressed delight that the scheme was being continued by the present government. He regretted that, over 2.7 trillion cedis accruing from NHIS has been locked up and therefore called on the government to disburse it to the various hospitals to enhance the smooth running of the scheme. He advised the youth to be steadfast and urged all the ethnic groups in the constituency to be united. Alhaji Sorogo expressed gratitude that all the various tribes residing in Madina attended the installation of the Sisala Chief. He told the gathering that his office was opened to everyone for any discussion.

During the swearing in of the Executive Members of the Sisala Youth wing in Madina, the Member of Parliament for Lambushie Mrs. Alice Teni Boon said the role of the youth was very important in every aspect of human endeavour adding that they could assist the new chief in the development of his area. She reminded the youth to be law abiding. She expressed concern that there were no women in the youth group and urged the women to mobilise and help develop the area. The MP for Sisala West, Mr. Bariga Haruna said the role of MPs cuts across boarders and this brings about unity in diversity since both NDC and NPP MPs were in attendance. He added that the two parties aimed at developing the country together.

The installation was performed by Imam Abdela of Madina at the impressive ceremony, attended by dignitaries including Mr. Bariga Haruna, the Presiding Member of Ga-East District Assembly, Major General Mahama Yahaya (rtd) and Major George Zaawi (rtd).
