Tema records two suicide cases in three days

Tema, Aug 24, GNA – Tema recorded its second suicide case within three days when Maxwell Aboagye, a 75-year-old former worker of Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) on Friday hanged himself to death. Aboagye, a father of five, hanged himself with a sponge tied to the shower at his residence, in Tema Community Seven. The first suicide incident occurred on August 22 when a 70-year-old man also hanged himself with a rope in Community One. Madam Janet Boahemaa, wife of Aboagye, told newsmen that she saw her husband hanging dead in their bathroom at about 0430 hours. She said it was a routine for him to bath early in the morning. Madam Boahemaa said Aboagye lost his right sight in an accident few years ago and had since then threatened to take his life. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Tetteh, Tema Community One District Commander, said the police would investigate the cause of the suicide.

The body of the deceased had been conveyed to the Tema General Hospital for autopsy.
