GAPI members extend the tenure of Board of Trustees

Kumasi, Aug 21, GNA – Members of the Ghana Association of Phonographic Industry (GAPI) have asked the Board of Trustees to stay in office for two more years to enable them continue implementing programmes the board had initiated.

At a meeting in Accra on Wednesday, the members resolved that the current two-year tenure of office of the Board was inadequate for them to implement most of their programmes.

The members also suggested an amendment to the association’s constitution to enable elected members stay in office for four years instead of the current two-year term.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on the outcome of the meeting Mr John Mensah Sarpong, National President of GAPI, said the decision by the members was in the right direction. He said the Board of Trustees had embarked on a number of initiatives aimed at changing the image of the music industry in the country. Among them is the ongoing advocacy programme with support from the BUSAC Fund for the government to have a policy direction for the music industry and also enable members in the industry to have access to long-term financial assistance.

Mr Sarpong said the Board was also building an office complex for the association in Kumasi while an elaborate project had also been launched to halt piracy in the music industry. He said the board wanted to leave a legacy by completing all these initiatives. The President commended members of the association for the support and called for their cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of the initiatives.
