American medical team offers free medical care

Tamale, Aug. 8, GNA – A 15-member medical team from the Organisation for International Development (OID), a US non-governmental organisation (NGO), is offering free medical care at the Tamale West Hospital.

The team, which would be in the metropolis for two days, is made up of specialists and medical students who would attend to people suffering from eye diseases, malaria, waist pains and dental problems. Dr. Marcia Jones, coordinator of the team, said her group team had volunteered to spend their holidays to provide free medical services to the poor and the vulnerable in Africa and the Caribbean. She said the NGO was established 18 years ago and focused on the provision of dental services and a food programme for schools and drug addicts.

The team would undertake a similar programme in Accra and some towns in the south. Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister, commended the team for their humanitarian gesture and appealed to them to consider making the exercise an annual affair. 08 Aug 08
