Western Region to benefit from energy saving bulbs

Sekondi, Aug. 6, GNA – The Western Region would receive 629,000 pieces of compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) from the Energy Commission for distribution to all districts free of charge.

Mr Victor Owusu, Public Affairs Officer of the Energy Commission, told newsmen that this was part of a programme to replace incandescent bulbs that consume a lot of energy.

He said from March next year it would be an offence to import or sell incandescent bulbs and that the country could save over 700 million dollars if all households changed to CFLs.

The country could also save 250 megawatts of electricity.
