School authorities blamed for low patronage of French language

Kumasi, Aug 3, GNA- A professor of French at the Department of Modern Languages, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has blamed school authorities for low patronage of the French language among students in the country.

Prof. Kwame Opoku-Agyemang, therefore, urged the authorities to initiate positive measures to encourage students to study the language to brighten their chances on the international job market. The French Professor made the call at the second graduation ceremony of the Crescent Kindergarten School at Bremang in Kumasi on Thursday.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang explained that the study and understanding of French would ensure easy interaction between Ghanaians and nationals of francophone African countries towards socio-economic and political development of the continent.

He appealed to the authorities to motivate French teachers and engagement qualified French teachers in the country’s schools to facilitate the teaching and studying of the language. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged parents to ensure that their children took the study of French seriously.

Mr. Osman Saeed, Director of the School, advised parents to assist teachers to enhance teaching and learning.

The 38 pupils who graduated from the Kindergarten were each given a certificate for their qualification into primary school.
