Buildings along the coast of Ada under threat from sea

Ada Foah, Aug 3, GNA- The Ada Teacher Training College and other important buildings including the administration block of the Dangme East District Assembly are under great threat of being washed away by the sea.

The sea erosion which has already washed away the central post office, police administration block, hospitals and other important buildings over the past 50 years claiming at least 11 meters of the Ada land every year.

Apart from the five miles of the entire Ada coastal belt being lost to the sea over the past 50 years, the erosion has also become a threat to the existence of the only tertiary institution in the Dangme East District.

Currently, over five hundred people have been rendered homeless due to a high tidal wave which hit the district leaving residents with no option than to take refuge in school buildings or relocate to other towns while others who have no where to go still resides in their half washed houses.

The Dangme East District Chief Executive, Mr Israel Narh Baako told the GNA that, the Assembly would be relocating to Atortorkope, a suburb of Big Ada since currently the building is about 20 meters from the sea after relocating it three times in the past. The Chief of Ada Foah, Nene Tawiah Nanor Tettey-Ga IV on Thursday visited the displaced residents from over 12 communities in the district. Nene Tettey-Ga IV, appealed to the government and other cooperate bodies to expedite the construction of a sea defence wall along the Ada coastal belt to avoid loosing the whole district to the sea. 4 Aug 07
