Nkwanta (V/R), July 31, GNA – The Nkwanta District Hospital has not recorded any maternal death between January and June, Dr. Kwaku Awoonor-Williams, Nkwanta District Director of Health Services, has said. He told the GNA in an interview that this was an improvement over its performance within the same period in 2006 when two maternal deaths were recorded.
Dr. Awoonor-Williams said 33 cases of snakebites with no death were recorded during the period while 37 cases with two deaths were recorded within the same period last year. Malaria cases have gone up from 1,299 last year to 2,137. The hospital, within the period, recorded 12 and 8 HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B cases respectively. It recorded an increase in attendances from 7,203 in 2006 to 7,437 in 2007.
Admissions have dropped from 909 cases in 2006 to 792 cases this year. Dr. Awoonor-Williams said the hospital recorded 37 deaths this year with anaemia and malaria being the two leading causes of death.
