Juaso (Ash), July 19, GNA – The Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon has sentenced a farmer, Kwaku Moro to 18 months’ imprisonment in hard labour for impersonation. He pleaded guilty to two counts of impersonation and assault and was convicted on his own plea.
Police Chief Inspector Benjamin Laryea Amoah, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant was a teacher whereas the accused was a farmer. Both were residents of Obogu in the Asante-Akim South district. He said on July 8 this year, around 1300 hours, Moro approached the complainant in his house claiming to be a herbalist and a member of the Ghana Pharmacy Council.
The court heard that the accused presented a concoction which he said could cure piles and other related diseases but the complainant declined to purchase.
Not perturbed, Moro got closer to the complainant, looked into his eye and said he was suffering from piles and further urged him to buy some of the concoction. This led to a confrontation between the two but with the assistance of some witnesses in the case, Moro was arrested and handed over to the police. According to the prosecution, investigations into the case revealed that the accused was neither a herbalist nor a member of the Ghana Pharmacy Council. GNA EKB/KK
