Sunyani Drivers Fined ¢309,000,000

Sunyani,(B/A) July 17, Space FM – The Sunyani Motor Transport and Traffic Unit(MTTU) mobilised a total of ¢309,500,000 between January and June, 2007 from court fines on traffic offences.

The station Officer, Inspector Kaakyire Anane disclosed this to Space FM in an interview in Sunyani.

He said court fines for the first quarter amounted to ¢72, 600,000 while the second quarter fines yielded ¢236,900,000.

Inspector Anane said fines for over speeding yielded ¢57,600,000, failing to stop – ¢97,800,000, refusing to test for alcohol content – ¢3,000,000 and over loading – ¢18,000,000,

The rest were, driving without license – ¢17,900,000, failing to wear seat belt, 1,000,000,careless and inconsiderate driving – ¢200,000, failure to renew insurance, income tax and driving license – ¢20,000,000.

Others are were driving unathourised class of vehicles – ¢2,000,000 and driving without fire extinguisher – ¢2,000,000.

The station Officer urged drivers to avoid overspeeding and overloading to prevent certain accidents.

He reminded drivers that they have crucial roles to play in ensuring safety on the roads and advised them to obey all traffic regulations.
