Accra July 11, GNA – Workers of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) on Wednesday embarked on a sit-down strike against its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Robert Ahomka Lindsay, who took office only a few months ago.
Some of the workers clad in red bands held placards which read: “Mr President, we don’t want to work with the new Chief Executive any more because of his cruelty towards staff”, “Pay us utility bills immediately and restore our accommodation”, “We don’tnt Ahomka.”
The workers accused Mr Ahomka Lindsay of unilaterally changing conditions of service negotiated with the board, suspending staff welfare loans and reducing funeral donations.
They also claimed there was no clear direction on outstanding leave, non-implementation of End-of-service benefit and freezing of 2005 staff assessment and promotions and 2006 staff assessment.
Mr Paul Petershia, leader of GIPC chapter of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), alleged that Mr Ahomka Lindsay had increased the investment processing fees, making them unattractive to investors.
Officials at the GIPC declined to talk to journalists, since Mr Ahomka Linsay was said to be on casual leave.
