Asuonyunu-Bontefufuo embark on development

Asuonyunu-Bontefufuo (Ash), May 1, GNA – The people of Asuonyunu-Bontefufuo in the Amansie West District of Ashanti raised eight million cedis at an Easter fund-raising harvest in aid of development projects in the town.

Projects to be undertaken under a two-year programme at the cost of 150 million cedis include electrification, the construction of a market, street drains and a health centre.

Mr Micheal Ofori, the assemblyman for the town, said a special levy of 3,000 cedis a man and 2,000 cedis a woman were being collected for the projects. Already, he said, the community has purchased 135 low-tension poles at the cost of 54 million cedes.

The district assembly has also donated 10 low-tension poles at the cost of four million cedis to the town while the Member of Parliament has also added five poles worth two million cedis.

Speaking at the function, Mr Anthony Boakye-Yiadom, the MP, commended the people of the town for their communal spirit and urged them to keep it up. Nana Kwagyan Nuamah VI, Asuonyunuhene, who chaired the function, used the occasion to launch an education fund for the traditional area and said every citizen is expected to contribute 2,400 cedis to support the fund. He, therefore, appealed to all Asuonyunu citizens resident outside to visit home to pay their contributions.
