Fire burnt 38 million cedis cash and displaces 56 tenants

Kumasi, June 27, GNA – A fire that burnt and destroyed the second floor of a two-storey residential building at Kwadaso near Paulkan Hotel in Kumasi last Saturday has displaced about 56 occupants of the 14 rooms on the floor. The fire did, not affect the ground and first floors, which consisted of about 28 living rooms.

Mr James Kwame Nsiah, the Nkawie Zonal Internal Auditor of the Ghana Education Service and also the assembly member for Foase in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District who is one of the victims, said properties and other items destroyed were estimated at over 200 million cedis and that 38 million cedis cash was burnt. The cash was the sales realized from the weekend’s trading and other business activities by some of the occupants that they planned to deposit in the bank the next working day. Items that also got burnt were television sets, refrigerators, mattresses, clothing, electrical gadgets, cooking and household utensils, computers and vital documents. The cause of the fire was, however, not known. When contacted, the police confirmed the story and said investigation were on-going.
