NPP members urged to work harder to win the election 2008

Agona Swedru, June 27, GNA – The Central Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Danguah Smith, has urged NPP functionaries to work harder because the party would not have it easy in election 2008. He said the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was working vigorously to take away the political power from the NPP in 2008.

Addressing a meeting of the Agona West Constituency branch of the party at Swedru on Sunday, Mr Smith advised faction leaders and their supporters to bury their political differences and work together as a team to retain power.

He warned members who were indulging in gossip and backbiting to desist from those acts because it would dampen the spirit of people and create a room for the opponents to operate.

Mr Smith called for peace and stability in the constituency to pave for the smooth running of the party in the area, saying infighting among the members would not help them to achieve their aims and objectives. He said the Regional Executives had fixed August 15 for the election of the constituency executives and expressed the hope that all members would contribute towards its success.

Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, MP for Agona West, said the government has awarded on contract all major roads in the district for tarring at an estimated cost of 45 billion cedis.

They include, Abodom, Swedru, Upper Bobikuma, Agona Asafo, Upper Bobikuma/Kawamang and Nyakrom/Kwamang roads.

Mr Ben Mensah, DCE for Agona, said the recent inauguration of Social Investment Programme (SIF) at Agona Swedru would reduce abject poverty facing some residents in the town.

Mr Adofo Dwamena, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee IMC of the NPP, called for unity and understanding among party members to ensure victory in 2008 elections.
