Court adjourns Abodakpi’s appeal sine die

Accra, June 26, GNA – A Court of Appeal in Accra, presided over by Mr. Justice B.T. Aryeetey, on Tuesday adjourned indefinitely an appeal filed by Daniel Kwasi Abodakpi, a former Minister of Trade, when his counsel, Mr. Charles Hayibor, could not move a motion in respect of the appeal.

Abodakpi, also a sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta was convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on February 5, this year when an Accra Fast Track High Court (FTC) found him guilty of seven counts of conspiracy and wilfully causing 2.73 billion cedis financial loss to the State.

The convict was standing trial with Victor Selormey (Deceased), Former Deputy Finance Minister. The trial lasted for 29 months. When the case was called on Tuesday, Mr. Hayibor told the court that on behalf of his client, he had sent a letter to the Registrar, indicating that the “records are not complete”.

He said there were lapses in the document and wanted that to be corrected. The court therefore, adjourned sine die until the two parties go to fix a date for proceedings.

The three panel members included Mrs. Justice Henrietta Abban and Mrs. Justice Mariama Owusu.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mrs. Gertrude Aikins appeared for the State. Abodakpi was present in court. A Fast Track High Court (FTC) in Accra on Thursday, April 19, struck out an application filed by the convict, which prayed the court to admit him to a bail pending an appeal against his 10-year jail term. This, the court refused on the grounds that the application for the bail was unmeritorious.
