Court remands narcotic dealers

Takoradi, June 20, GNA – Nurideen Mohammed Wala, a trader and Abdulai Tijani, a scrap dealer, on Wednesday appeared before a circuit court in Takoradi for assaulting a public officer and possessing narcotic drugs.

The accused persons, whose plea was not taken, were remanded to re-appear on July 6. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor, said Wala, is a notorious drugs dealer on the wanted list of the Police. He said at about 14:30 hours on June 15 this year, the Police had a

tip-off that Wala was selling narcotics drugs at “Top Ten” in Takoradi. Chief Inspector Hedidor said a team of Police personnel detailed to

arrest Wala went to his hideout at Top-Ten. He said the accused was at that time preparing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp for sale and took to his heels as soon as he saw the Police, leaving the leaves behind. Chief Inspector Hedidor said a policeman managed to arrest the accused person about 100 metres away.

He said after his arrest, the accused turned on the policeman and assaulted him mercilessly and had it not been for the timely intervention of other policemen, he would have been seriously injured. Chief Inspector Hedidor said Tijani, who is a friend of Wala attacked the policemen with an iron bar and was also arrested. He said Wala was taken to his hideout where they found the Indian hemp had been put into a black bag. Chief Inspector Hedidor said Wala claimed ownership of the black

bag but denied ownership of the Indian hemp.
