Ghanaian workers are better off than counterparts in neighbouring countries -Minister

Mr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Minister of Education says Ghanaian workers are better off than their counterparts in neighbouring countries because they receive their salaries on time at the end of every month.

In spite of the economic hardships facing the country, the Minister said, the government is doing its best to ensure the well being of all. He was addressing the staff of the Sunyani District Directorate of Education as part of his three-day tour of institutions under the Ministry in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Workers should, therefore, exhaust all avenues for redress of grievances before embarking on strikes, which tend to aggravate the economic problems of the country. He advised workers to take good care of available facilities to ensure their long life span they should particularly avoid the misuse of official vehicles.

Mr. Spio-Garbrah said the ministry would soon streamline the procedure for admission into teacher training colleges to ensure that only those qualified gain admission, as part of efforts to upgrade teaching and learning. He expressed satisfaction with the close co-operation between the Sunyani District Assembly and the District Education Directorate in efforts to solve problems facing education in the district.
