AGBL donates for girl’s surgical operation

Bibiani (W/R), April 19, GNA — The Ashanti Goldfields Bibiani Limited (AGBL) has presented a cheque for 2.8 million cedis to Abena Nyarko, a 15 year-old-student of the Sefwi-Boako JSS, to enable her undergo a surgical operation at the Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Nyarko sustained a throat injury when she mistakenly drank a cup of water believed to have been mixed with soda used in manufacturing soap. The gesture, which forms part of the company’s community assistance package, was in response to an urgent appeal made by her parents.

Making the presentation, Mr Thomas Nyarko, manager in-charge of administration of AGBL, said the donation was their widow’s mite and expressed how grateful the company felt in having a hand in saving the life of the girl.

Mr Nyarko advised soap manufacturers to keep their chemicals out of the reach of people, especially at night to avoid any criminal negligence. Barima Boadu, a family member, who received the cheque, thanked the company for its financial support.
