Peki (V/R) June 10, GNA- Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama at the weekend assured the staff and students of Peki Secondary School (PESCO) that he will champion their desire to get the full complement of educational facilities on campus.
He mentioned specifically the completion of a 21-storey administration block started 15 years ago and a two-storey dormitory block embarked upon in 1999.
Vice President Mahama, who was speaking at the anniversary celebration of the school on the theme: “Education, the Bedrock of National Development,” said he would take up the issue with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports.
“Within resource constraints, my office will take up the issue of liasing with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to ensure that PESCO model school programme remains on course.” He called on the school to sustain and enhance the standard of discipline.
Vice President Mahama stressed: “No doubt, you cannot achieve any of your objectives as an educational institution, if you are not disciplined and focused.”
He asked the school authorities to embrace Information, Communication and Technology to bridge the global divide.
He lauded the vision of Togbe Kwadzo Dei, XI Paramount Chief of Peki Traditional Area, for establishing the school. Mr. Erasmus Anyomi, Headmaster, said efforts at attaining universal quality education must address factors that influenced discipline in schools.
He said PESCO with a population of 800 students had no residential accommodation on campus. Mr. Anyomi said the situation was worse since it was mixed school.
He observed that the driving force of development is education and asked Government to understudy the stride made by other countries to lead Ghana to the right path of educational reforms. Master Samuel Quansah, School Prefect appealed to the government for a stand-by generator for the school to facilitate teaching and learning during power outage.
Togbe Dei, whose speech was read on his behalf asked tutors of the school to inculcate in the students the value of culture. Togbega Gabusu V, Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area and President of Volta Region House of Chiefs, who chaired the function, also reminded the students of the essence of being disciplined in other to realise their future objectives. 10 June 07
