Chief Sells Wee

Kwabena Manu, 45, Chief of Kwaidindin, near Nsawkaw in the Tain District, is in the grips of the Sunyani Municipal Police for keeping sacks of Indian hemp in his room. Narrating the incident to the press, the Municipal Police Commander, C. T. Yohuno said his outfit had information that despite police surveillance in the area, some people were still keeping Indian hemp, popularly called ‘wee’ in their houses, selling the illegal substance to patrons.

The Police therefore embarked on an operation and randomly searched individual rooms and retrieved 10 sacks of ‘wee’ and a sack of ‘wee’ seeds, among other things. The police said they arrested six persons also, including a 13-year old boy, and these suspects would be arraigned soon.This brought to 18 the number of persons arrested so far in connection with the Alexander Kuffuor Frimpong ‘wee’ saga. It would be recalled that the Sunyani Police recently went on an operation and destroyed a 4-hectare ‘wee’ plantation allegedly belonging to one Alexander Kuffuor Frimpong, popularly known as Lexis in music circles.

Alexander, the producer of Ghana’s renowned hip-life musician, Batman Samminie, is currently at large.The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ayensu Opare-Addo in an interview, noted that the ‘ganja farmer’ was in the country and thePolice would deploy all means, including the INTERPOL, to arrest him.Alex was alleged to have disclosed that he had invested an amount of $120,000 dollars in the wee plantation, and had implicated the Wenchi Police boss, claiming he was paying the cop ¢25 million monthly.

The allegation had led to the interdiction of the Wenchi Police boss, DSP Tanko K. Tinbow and another ASP, whose name was not readily known. All 18 persons have since been remanded while investigations continue.
