Ex-chief of Sreso-Tinpom arrested for stealing

Nyinahin (Ash), May 31, GNA- Nana Osei Yaw, 49, ex-chief of Sreso-Tinpom in the Atwima-Mponua district of Ashanti, has been arrested by the Nyinahin police for allegedly stealing building materials valued at 3.5 million cedis.

The building materials belong to the Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company at Kufuor Camp near Nyinahin.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Nyinahin on Thursday, DSP Samuel Alordy, Nyinahin District Police commander, said the Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company was putting up a cocoa shed at Antwi-adjei Nkwanta. He said the ex-chief who is a depot keeper at the Kufuor Camp rented one of his rooms to the company to keep the building materials being used for the construction of the shed.

DSP Alordy said barely a week after, the owners of the materials decided to go for the items, but to their surprise, three packets of roofing sheets, four buckets of emulsion paints and four boxes of roofing nails, which were kept in the locked room had been stolen. DSP Alordey said the ex-chief was arrested and during interrogation admitted having stolen the building materials but had sold them. He said the police have however, been able to retrieve all the items adding that the suspect would soon be put before court.
