Rainstorm hits Akim Oda

Akim Oda, April 11, GNA- A severe rainstorm which hit Akim Oda on Saturday rendered more than 80 people homeless and destroyed property estimated at several million cedis.

The assembly member for the area, Mr Yaw Frempong, conducted the Birim South district co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Sampson Mensah-Takyi and the deputy district co-ordinating director, Mr Stephen Attua Odoi, to inspect the ruins.

Mr Frempong said most of the victims are old and infirm and for that matter it would be difficult for them to raise money to rehabilitate their buildings. He therefore appealed to the government to go to their aid.

Mr Mensah-Takyi consoled the victims and said the district secretariat of NADMO would team up with the district assembly to see how best to assist them rehabilitate their homes.

He reiterated his call on the people to plant trees in their compounds to serve as a windbreaks and to always engage qualified carpenters to roof their buildings.
