Asunafo Youth express satisfaction with MP’s conduct

Asunafo (E/R), May 20, GNA – The youth of Akyem Asunafo who were recently in the news for having blocked their Member of Parliament’s car from entering the town have now decided to support his effort towards the realization of the road project over which they were agitating.

They said their action was not meant to spite Dr Charles Brimpong Yeboah, their MP, but to draw attention to their plight. A spokesperson for the youth and Ankobeahene of the town, Bafour Siaw Amoafo, told newsmen at Asunafo on Friday that the youth were not aware that the MP had made advances on the matter at the time of the incident and that the community members are now satisfied with the progress being made towards the realization of that dream. He said following the incident Dr Yeboah demanded that a five-member team comprising both the youth and opinion leaders of the community be constituted to meet relevant state officials concerning the road.

Bafour Amoafo said the team that went to Accra to dialogue with officials of the Ghana Highway Authority was satisfied with revelations that it was through the instrumentality of Dr Yeboah that funding was secured to make it possible for the first time for the reconstruction and tarring of the feeder road.

When constructed the road would link Asunafo in the south to either Abomusu to Kade or Abomosu to Anyinam and to the North through Jejeti, near Nkawkaw on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

All the listed towns are notable cocoa and oil palm growing areas in the Eastern Region Bafour Amoafo said the project is to be put on tender by the end of May and the successful bidder is expected to begin work within the next two months.

On April 10, a section of the youth briefly blocked the main road in their town to draw their visiting legislator’s attention to what they said was lack of action in reconstructing the feeder road in their community despite numerous assurances by many political leaders. However, unknown to them, the government had already secured a European Union credit towards financing the reconstruction project. 20 May 07
