Father “goes inside” for his son.

Tema, April 10, GNA – The Tema Community Tribunal on Monday, remanded in custody a 65 year old man, who stood surety for his son in a motor bike stealing case but has repeatedly refused to bring him to stand trial.

When Stephen Tetteh appeared before the tribunal chaired by Capt. Philip Agbeyome (rtd) he explained that his wife had sent the accused Simon Mensah Tetteh, a Mechanic to Somenya, in the Eastern Region but could not tell when he would return.

Stephen Tetteh, a retired worker of Tema Textiles Limited (TTL) stood astonished and confused in the dock when the tribunal pronounced its interim verdict and he was whisked away by the Police.

The tribunal also remanded Samuel Ansah and Zakaria Mensah, both mechanics for dishonestly receiving the motor bike. They pleaded guilty. They are all to re-appear on Wednesday April 13. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Diana Adamu told the tribunal that somewhere in 1999, the complainant, Nana Kwaku Dabanka, gave his unregistered Yamaha motor bike to Simon Mensah Tetteh for repairs at the cost of 30,000 cedis, which he paid.

She said when Nana Dabanka went to the mechanic shop in community four to demand his bike, it could not be traced and a report was made to the Police. On February 12, Nana Dabanka saw the motor bike with Zakaria and caused his arrest.

During Police investigations, Zakaria said he bought the bike from Samuel Ansah, who said he also bought it from Simon Tetteh. Simon Tetteh has never reported to Police since he was granted bail.
