Youth fined two million cedis for impersonation

Sunyani, May 16, GNA – A Sunyani Circuit court presided over by Mr Kofi Debrah on Tuesday sentenced an 18 year old unemployed youth to a fine of two million cedis for attempting to write the mathematics paper in an examination for a friend.

Johnson McCarthy Mbora pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonation and will go to prison for 12 months in hard labour in default. He was also made to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for a year in connection with any examination.

Police Chief Inspector Kingsley Baafi, told the court that in June last year, Johnson was caught by an invigilator impersonating in the examination conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for his friend, one George Twumasi, student, now at large. The prosecution said Johnson was arrested when an invigilator checking picture identification during the mathematics paper at an examination hall in Sunyani, detected that the picture attached to the examination paper was not Johnson’s.

Chief Inspector Baafi said when interrogated Johnson admitted the offence and confessed that he was writing the paper for his friend and was subsequently handed over to the police. 16 May 07
