Accra, May 14, GNA – The British High Commission in collaboration with Richard Akwei Memorial School has inaugurated a Special Educational Needs project in Accra.
The British High Commission funded the completion of a three-classroom building and learning materials at a cost of 209,500,000 cedis, according to a statement from the High Commission on Monday.
The Ghana Government has set targets for the implementation of the national education strategy and has put forward ideas for reform across the education system.
The UK government is providing A3150 million in funding to help Ghana meet the UN target of giving every child a primary education by 2015.
The statement said in order for every child to benefit from education, Richard Akwei Memorial School had established a Department for Special Educational Needs (SEN) to address children with learning disabilities – “slow learners” and children with emotional problems, which affected their learning.
The SEN project would sensitise teachers to recognise students with learning disabilities to facilitate progress and promote learning for all children, it said.
