CHPC establishes at Buokrom in Kumasi

Kumasi, May 01, GNA – The Society of Friends of Ashanti and Ghana (SOFAAG), a non-governmental organization (NGO) has set up a Community Health Promotion Centre (CHPC) at the Naka and Saint Ama Hospital at Buokrom in Kumasi to help train more community health workers.

The workers would help educate their communities on health related issues to minimize the spread of diseases and ensure proper hygiene and sanitation among the people.

Dr Judith Campbell, Director of SOFAAG in London, announced this at the inauguration of the centre in Kumasi at the weekend.

She said many people were ignorant about the causes and treatment of some common diseases and hoped that the training of the workers would help assist their communities in treatment of diseases.

Dr. Campbell commended Nana Kusi Appiah, Chief Executive Officer of the Naka and Saint Ama Hospital for providing accommodation to be used as the centre.

She also said the duration of the course is four months and advised communities to sponsor their people to undertake the course to assist their communities in health education.

Dr Kofi Asare, Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, commended the organization for establishing the centre to equip the youth with skills to educate people in health related problems. He assured the readiness of the Ministry of Health to support the training of the hea lth personnel to enable them work effectively after the course. Dr Kwadwo Amoah, Medical Officer in-charge of the hospital, stressed the need for people to take some preventive measures against the spread of diseases.

This, he said, would improve their health status at all times. Nana Owusu Senyah II, chief of Abuohia near Kronum in Kumasi, urged the people to observe proper hygiene and environmental sanitation in their areas to avoid spread of diseases.
