FIDA holds workshop for women

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), March 30, GNA – The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA)- Ghana, in collaboration with Brong Ahafo Regional office of the Department of Women has organized a three-day legal outreach programme for more than 100 women leaders in the Dormaa District. The workshop was aimed at improving rural the women’s access to justice.

Addressing the participants Miss Eudora Oppong, Administrator of FIDA-Ghana, Kumasi Office, noted with concern that in spite of the immense role women play in society and form 51 per cent of Ghana’s population, their rights are persistently been violated. She said many women, especially those in rural communities with little or no quality education, were frequently denied access to vital natural resources, control over their reproductive rights and participation in vital decision making positions.

“Women are therefore not able to recognize their rights and when such rights are being abused and it is against this background that FIDA-Ghana sought sponsorship for this programme”, she said. She said it was a year long programme designed to bring to the doorsteps of community members awareness of their rights. Madam Victoria Owusu-Kyeremaah, Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the Department of Women, thanked FIDA for the programme.
