Monument for 2BN Commissioned.

Apremdo (W/R), March 30, GNA- A monument representing the unyielding and great fighting spirit of the African, which is the symbol of the Second Battalion of Infantry (2BN) of the Ghana Army was commissioned on Friday at the Myohaung barracks at Apremdo near Takoradi.

The monument depicting a traditional African warrior with a spear in hand and in combat mood was commissioned and unveiled by the 2BN Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Vib-Sanziri, amid the playing of the fanfare and unit anthem.

On top of the monument is an artwork of a tarantula, which is the sign of the Southern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces. Lt. Col. Vib-Sanziri advised the soldiers to work hard and remain loyal and dedicated to the cause of the nation. The ceremony was part of a programme to welcome Officers and men of the 2BN led by Lt. Col. Vib-Sanziri who arrived from Liberia on Wednesday after six months peace-keeping operations in that country. Reverend Thomas Kwasi Addo, Unit chaplain in charge of the Methodist Church and Warrant Officer class one Ahmed Abdulai, Unit Imam said the Christian and Moslem prayers respectively for God’s guidance of the Unit and the country.

Major Albert Dawohoso, Second in Command of 2BN later told the Ghana News Agency that the monument, which was erected from the resources of the Unit cost about 50 million cedis.
