Ninety million cedis water project for Gonokrom begins

Gonokrom (B/A), GNA – The government through the Ministry of Works and housing is providing the people of Gonokrom, a border town near Dormaa-Ahenkro, with a pedal flow ground water supply system at a cost of 90 million cedis.

Under the programme the people are to contribute 1.25 million cedis towards funding the project. Mr Alex Takyi, assemblyman for Gonokrom who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Gonokrom yesterday, said the project, when completed, would alleviate the perennial water problem of the people.

Mr Takyi said at times, the people have to travel to Takyikrom on the Cote D’Ivoire side of the border for water. Mr Takyi said, Moving-Water Technology, an NGO is executing the project and that it is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

He said that the people are paying special levies of 10,000 cedis a man and 7,000 cedis a woman towards the project and appealed to the people to pay their levies promptly to ensure an early completion of the facility.

The assemblyman also said the people have planned to undertake a community farm project to raise funds to build a clinic. Mr Takyi further said that the town’s electrification project is on course and hoped that it would soon be connected to the national grid.

Nana Maama Kramo, chief of the town appealed to the government to rehabilitate the Dormaa-Ahenkro-Gonokrom road.
