Aflao (V/R), March 27, GNA – An Assistant Director of the Ghana Immigration Service in charge of Aflao, Mr Emmanuel Yirenkyi has appealed to the authorities to consider constructing a drainage system at the Aflao border.
He said the perennial muddy situation there anytime it rained needed to be checked.
Mr Yirenkyi said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Monday after heavy rains rendered almost the entire border area impassable for both pedestrians and vehicles.
The whole area was waterlogged and there was thick mud at the cargo, vehicle registration and other car parks and travellers found it difficult to alight to go through departure formalities. The situation was worse on the road leading to the frontier from the inter-city STC Transport Terminal as it got covered with mud. Mr Yirenkyi said as the country’s gateway, all efforts needed to be put in place to address all shortfalls to make the Aflao frontier attractive and motivating to both travellers and workers.
The heavy rain overturned some kiosks, ripped off roofs and uprooted signposts including a giant one belonging to the Ghana Telecom near the defunct OSA Bus Terminal close to the border.
