IRS appeals to the Self-employed to pay taxes regularly

Nkawie (Ash), March 1, GNA- Mr. Charles Oduro, Assistant Inspector of Taxes of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), on Tuesday appealed to self-employed people to pay their taxes promptly and regularly, to enable the IRS to generate more revenue for national development. He expressed surprise that most self-employed workers who benefited from social amenities provided by government with revenue generated from taxes failed to pay taxes.

Mr. Oduro was speaking at a day’s forum on tax education for self-employed people in the Atwima District, organised by the District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the area, at Nkawie.

The forum was aimed at sensitizing the people on the need to honour their tax obligation and to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country.

Mr. Thomas Owusu, Senior Field Officer of the NCCE, urged Ghanaians to consider the payment of taxes as a commitment to good governance and appealed to tax collectors to work honestly and efficiently to motivate people to pay their taxes regularly. 1 March 07
